Bob Dylan is an American singer-songwriter who rose to prominence in the 1960s thanks to his folk songs (many of which have themes of social protest). He later reacted against the acoustic folk movement by "plugging in", employing electric guitar and a full band in his recordings. His influence on many key artists in rock music (examples include John Lennon, Patti Smith, and Bruce Springsteen) has earned him special awards from U.S. President Barack Obama and the Pulitzer Prize Committee, among others.
All of the songs included in this collection were written by Dylan. Four of these recordings ("Blowin' in the Wind", "Masters of War", and "With God On Our Side") are performed by Dylan himself. "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" is performed by Texas-based folk duo Carrie Elkin and Danny Schmidt, while "The Times They Are A-Changin'" is performed by contemporary roots-rock band Of A Revolution (better known as O.A.R.).
This collection includes a classroom activity related to the song "Blowin' in the Wind."
